TLDR The pandemic worsened physical and mental challenges for women with PCOS.
The study explored the experiences of 12 women with PCOS during the first UK COVID-19 lockdown, revealing that the pandemic exacerbated existing challenges related to their condition. Participants reported increased mental health issues due to disrupted access to healthcare and support services, heightened health anxiety, and feelings of isolation. The lockdown intensified difficulties in managing PCOS symptoms, such as weight management, and delayed access to specialized healthcare, including fertility treatments. Overall, the pandemic added to the pre-existing challenges faced by women with PCOS, impacting their physical and mental wellbeing.
