TLDR Capitate trichomes have more endoplasmic reticulum and vacuoles, while peltate trichomes have more plastids and larger subcuticular spaces.
The study examined the ultrastructure of two types of glandular hairs in Salvia farinacea, specifically capitate and peltate trichomes, using a transmission electron microscope. It was found that capitate trichomes primarily contained endoplasmic reticulum, whereas peltate trichomes contained plastids. Additionally, peltate trichomes had a larger subcuticular space and completely cutinized side walls in their stalk cells, unlike capitate trichomes. Capitate trichomes also had more vacuoles in their foot cells compared to peltate trichomes.
