TLDR A man developed recurring scalp inflammation and hair loss after a head injury.
A 38-year-old epileptic man developed tufted hair folliculitis following a scalp laceration sustained during an epileptic crisis. The condition began with an inflammatory lesion that evolved into scarring alopecia with tufts of 20 to 30 hair shafts. Bacteriologic examination revealed Staphylococcus aureus. Pathologic examination showed polymorphous inflammatory exudate and converging follicles. Despite treatment with various oral and topical antibiotics, the patient experienced only transient improvement, followed by recurrence and enlargement of the affected area.
