TLDR Trichotillomania was successfully treated with risperidone and naltrexone.
A geriatric case report from 2014 described the successful treatment of trichotillomania, a chronic psychiatric condition involving uncontrollable hair pulling, with the medications risperidone and naltrexone. The condition, which often begins in childhood or early adolescence, leads to noticeable hair loss, particularly on the scalp and eyelashes. Despite its prevalence, estimated at 1.5% for males and 3.4% for females among college students, many individuals suffer in silence due to the associated secrecy and shame, resulting in delayed treatment.
