TLDR Trichostasis spinulosa mainly affects the nose, with many tiny hairs in one follicle, possibly influenced by hormones and sunlight.
In a study of 51 patients with trichostasis spinulosa, researchers found that lesions were localized to the nose, with up to 86 hairs present in a single hair follicle. Histological examination revealed compound hair follicles containing numerous vellous hairs and keratin-filled sebaceous glands. The condition was suggested to be influenced by endocrine factors and possibly actinic rays.
