TLDR Trichoscopy is easier and quicker than folliscopy for diagnosing telogen effluvium.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of trichoscopy and digital folliscopy in diagnosing telogen effluvium (TE) in 100 adult participants. Both methods were found to be highly accurate and sensitive for diagnosing TE, with key indicators including more than 5% new regrowing anagen hair, empty hair follicles, single hair follicles, and peripilar halo. However, trichoscopy was noted to be easier and less time-consuming compared to folliscopy, making it a more practical choice for clinical use.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

A doctor advised against taking finasteride after a hair transplant, suggesting the patient had reached their final balding pattern, but many users disagreed, recommending medications like minoxidil and finasteride to prevent further hair loss. The consensus was to seek a second opinion, as the advice seemed financially motivated rather than medically sound.
