Lady With Long Eyelashes: A Case of Trichomegaly Due to Erlotinib

    Soumya S. Inamadar, N. S. Praveen Kumar
TLDR Erlotinib can cause unusual hair growth, like long eyelashes and facial hair.
A 60-year-old postmenopausal woman experienced significant eyelash growth, known as trichomegaly, and increased facial hair, or hypertrichosis, after using the drug Erlotinib for 8 years following lung cancer surgery. Erlotinib, an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor, disrupts normal hair growth cycles, leading to prolonged anagen phases and abnormal hair growth. This case underscored the importance of considering drug history in patients with unusual hair growth to avoid unnecessary diagnostic procedures. The condition, while mostly harmless, can cause complications like eyelid infections.
