TLDR Lightly perming scalp hair can lead to new hair growth, potentially treating baldness.
In 1995, Inaba and Inaba conducted a trial treatment of androgenetic alopecia using oxidizing agents. The study was based on Inaba's original hypothesis on hair generation, which was inspired by a physician's observation of new hair growth after permanent waving. The treatment involved perming the scalp hair lightly and directly, which reportedly led to new hair growth between thin hairs. This method was also used in a few research centers for treating baldness.
