TLDR Different aroma oils are suited for dry, oily, or sensitive scalps based on their specific chemical compositions.
The study conducted 11 years ago aimed to identify the chemical tendencies of aroma oils used for hair loss management. The researchers compared the chemical ingredients of aroma oils for dry scalp, oily scalp, and sensitive scalp. They found that aroma oil for dry scalp had the highest amount of monoterphen and sesquiterpene in ingredients like sandalwood and chamomile. Aroma oil for oily scalp had the highest amount of monoterphen in ingredients like basil, rosemary, bergamot, cypress, juniper, teatree, lemon, and rose. Aroma oil for sensitive scalp had the highest amount of monoterphen alcohol in ingredients like peppermint, lavender, rosemary, ylangylang, geranium, clary sage, and basil. The study concluded that aroma oils categorized for certain types of scalp have similarities in their composition, providing a basis for measuring the effects of aromatherapy according to the chemical composition of aroma oil.
