TLDR Immunoadsorption successfully treated a man's resistant polymyositis.
The document reported a case of a 46-year-old man with "steroid and immunosuppressant-resistant" polymyositis who was successfully treated with immunoadsorption. The patient experienced muscle weakness and pain, Raynaud's phenomenon, and elevated body temperature. Despite treatment with high-dose methylprednisolone, prednisolone, and azathioprine, his condition worsened, leading to severe muscle weakness and inability to walk. A muscle biopsy confirmed polymyositis. Upon transfer to Shinshu University Hospital, the patient exhibited additional symptoms such as hair loss and cervical lymphadenopathy. Immunoadsorption was employed as a treatment, which proved successful in managing his condition.
