TLDR A vitamin D3 compound can reduce skin cell growth.
The study investigated the effects of a topically active vitamin D3 analogue, 1α,24-dihydroxy-cholecalciferol, on the epidermis of guinea pig skin. The results demonstrated that this compound had an anti-proliferative effect, meaning it was able to reduce the rate of cell growth in the epidermis. This finding suggested potential therapeutic applications for conditions characterized by excessive cell proliferation, such as psoriasis. The research provided early evidence supporting the use of vitamin D3 analogues in dermatological treatments.
