Prescription Pattern of Tofacitinib for Alopecia Areata Among Dermatologists in Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Study

A cross-sectional study conducted in Saudi Arabia surveyed 546 dermatologists about their use of Tofacitinib, a drug used to treat Alopecia Areata (AA). It found that 23.2% (127) of the dermatologists prescribe Tofacitinib for AA, and 72.4% (92) of these believe it to be effective. However, 47.7% (200) of the dermatologists who do not prescribe Tofacitinib cited its unavailability as the main reason. The study also found a significant association between prescribing Tofacitinib and the dermatologist's gender, nationality, and position title, but not their years of experience. Despite previous studies showing Tofacitinib's effectiveness, the majority of dermatologists did not agree that Tofacitinib was safe, indicating a need for further research on the drug's effectiveness and side effects.
