TLDR Higher thyroid antibodies in Hashimoto's thyroiditis are linked to more inflammation and symptoms.
In this study involving 108 Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) patients and 57 healthy controls, researchers found that HT patients experienced more severe extrathyroidal symptoms, such as digestive, endocrine, neuropsychiatric, and mucocutaneous issues, despite being in a euthyroid state. Elevated levels of thyroid antibodies (TPO-Ab and TG-Ab) were inversely correlated with health-related life quality and positively correlated with inflammation markers (TNF-α and IFN-γ) and symptom severity, including abdominal distension, diarrhea, chilliness, forgetfulness, and fatigue. Additionally, TG-Ab levels were linked to symptoms like depression, insomnia, and indifference, highlighting the impact of thyroid antibodies on symptom burden and inflammation in HT patients.
