TLDR Understanding the normal hair cycle and different types of hair loss is important for maintaining healthy hair.
The document from 10 years ago discussed the different types of hair loss and their causes. Hair loss can be physiological, where hair falls out and regrows in cycles, with up to 100 strands falling out per day being normal. Pathological hair loss, on the other hand, involves more than 100 strands falling out per day or hair falling out in certain areas and not regrowing. Causes of pathological hair loss can include aging, male pattern baldness, congenital alopecia, alopecia areata, hair loss associated with internal diseases or skin diseases, and hair loss caused by medications or radiation therapy. Even though they are not diseases, aging and male pattern baldness are common causes of hair thinning. In women, a common cause is telogen effluvium, where hair growth stops for unclear reasons. The document emphasized the importance of understanding the normal hair cycle and the various types of hair loss to maintain healthy and beautiful hair.
