TLDR Avemor, a natural tonic made from aloe vera and moringa, was less effective than minoxidil in promoting hair growth on rabbits.
The study tested the effectiveness of Avemor, a natural hair growth tonic made from aloe vera gel and dried moringa leaf extract, on male New Zealand white rabbit hair. The tonic was compared to a product containing 2% minoxidil, a powerful arteriol vasoconstrictor used off-label to treat hair diseases and promote hair growth. Six test regions were created on the backs of five rabbits, and each area received a different treatment daily with a sample volume of 0.5 ml. The results showed that the Avemor tonic had a liquid shape, a distinct aroma, a pH of 6, and varied in color depending on the concentration of the dried moringa leaf extracts. The average hair growth on the seventh day for the Avemor treatment was 0.22 ± 0.17 cm, 0.30 ± 0.23 cm, and 0.42 ± 0.42 cm for the 2%, 4%, and 6% concentrations respectively. The minoxidil treatment resulted in an average hair growth of 0.68 ± 0.36 cm. By the 21st day, the average hair length for the Avemor treatments was 0.43 ± 0.26 cm, 0.73 ± 0.19 cm, and 0.32 ± 0.23 cm, while the minoxidil treatment resulted in an average hair length of 0.13 ± 0.17 cm.
