TLDR Men with type 2 diabetes often have low testosterone and signs of hypogonadism, especially if they are overweight.
The study "Serum testosterone levels and clinical signs of hypogonadism in men with type 2 diabetes" involved 65 male patients with type 2 diabetes, aged between 35 and 70 years. The research found that low testosterone levels are common in men with diabetes, with 78.4% of the participants showing symptoms of hypogonadism according to the ADAM questionnaire. Among these, 90.1% had erectile dysfunction and 64.7% had decreased libido. The study also found that 24.6% of all patients had hypogonadism, and 75% of those with hypogonadism had a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 30. The study concluded that BMI is an independent risk factor for hypogonadism in men with type 2 diabetes, and there is a significant correlation between free testosterone levels and hypogonadism.
