Telogen Effluvium Incidence in Women Wearing Hijab Compared to Non-Hijab: A Cross-Sectional Study

    Image of study
TLDR Wearing a hijab is linked to a higher risk of hair loss.
This cross-sectional study investigated the incidence of telogen effluvium (TE) in 188 healthy women aged 18 and over, comparing those who wear hijabs for at least 8 hours a day over 5 years to those who do not. The results showed a higher incidence of TE in hijab-wearing women (26.8%) compared to non-hijab-wearing women (18.1%), with a significant p-value of 0.040 and an odds ratio of 2.036. The study concludes that wearing a hijab is significantly associated with an increased risk of TE, suggesting the need for further research in different populations with larger sample sizes to confirm these findings.
