TLDR Telitacicept effectively improved hair regrowth in a woman with lupus and alopecia.
A 24-year-old Chinese woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and alopecia areata showed significant improvement after treatment with telitacicept, a novel recombinant fusion protein. Despite previous treatments with methylprednisolone, mycophenolate mofetil, hydroxychloroquine, and baricitinib, her alopecia persisted. However, after 6 weeks of telitacicept treatment, hair regrowth was observed, and after 24 weeks, there was prominent hair regrowth with no adverse effects. Telitacicept works by blocking the proliferation of B lymphocytes and the maturation of T lymphocytes, providing a new potential treatment approach for SLE with alopecia areata. Further clinical studies are needed to confirm these findings.
