TLDR Patients with deficiency syndrome, especially qi deficiency, have a higher risk of type 2 heart attacks.
This study investigated the correlation between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes and type 2 myocardial infarction (T2MI) in critically ill patients with pulmonary disease. It included 244 patients, of whom 78 developed T2MI. The study found that patients with deficiency syndrome had a significantly higher incidence of T2MI compared to those with phlegm syndrome (40.9% vs. 26.5%). T2MI was independently associated with baseline troponin levels, hemoglobin levels below 55 g/L, mechanical ventilation, and TCM deficiency syndrome. The study concluded that patients with deficiency syndrome, particularly those with qi deficiency syndrome, were at a higher risk of developing T2MI.
