TLDR SHA lowers the hairline quickly and patients are usually happy with the results if they are good candidates.
The research article from September 2018 examined surgical hairline advancement (SHA), a procedure that lowers high hairlines by an average of 2.1cm, and can go up to 5.5cm in some cases. The procedure, which takes less than two hours, provides immediate results equivalent to transplanting 8,000-10,000 grafts. The study was based on 89 procedures performed over 9 years, with 37 conducted in the last 18 months. Ideal candidates for SHA have good scalp mobility, a strong frontal hairline without risk of thinning, and a preference for SHA over hair transplantation. The authors also found that many SHA patients can benefit from transplants, which can be done three to four months post-surgery. The study concluded that SHA provides a high level of satisfaction for the right patient.

Dutasteride is more effective than finasteride for hair loss as it blocks more of the enzyme causing hair loss. New treatments like stem cell therapies and alternatives to minoxidil are being explored, but major advancements are still years away.
