TLDR Combining surgery and photodynamic therapy effectively treated a rare scalp condition when other treatments failed.
A 19-year-old male with perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens, a rare chronic inflammatory scalp condition, was successfully treated using a combination of surgery and photodynamic therapy (PDT) after traditional treatments failed. The treatment involved surgical removal of necrotic tissue followed by 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) PDT, which improved the patient's condition significantly within 3 months, reducing abscesses and nodules without adverse reactions. This method is effective for patients who do not respond to conventional therapies.
