TLDR Hair transplantation effectively treated a woman's patchy hair loss when other treatments failed.
In the documented case, a 22-year-old woman with a 3-year history of hair loss on her left temporal scalp underwent successful hair transplantation to treat acquired Temporal Triangular Alopecia (TTA). Despite using topical minoxidil for over 6 months with no effect, the transplantation of 987 follicular units from the occipital area to the affected region resulted in significant cosmetic improvement without complications, except for mild scalp erythema that subsided. The patient was satisfied with the outcome after 18 months of follow-up. The study suggests that hair transplantation can be an effective treatment option for TTA with a large alopecic patch, similar to its use in androgenetic alopecia, especially when complete surgical excision is not feasible due to the size of the lesion or potential scarring.

      community Verteporfin and Microneedling

      in Treatments 6 months ago
Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.
