Long-Term Retrospective Study on the Incidence of Urinary Calculi in Wuwei, Gansu Province, China, 1995–2016

    The study analyzed 5,497 patients with urolithiasis in Wuwei, China, from 1995 to 2016, revealing an increasing trend in the incidence of urinary calculi, particularly among males, with a sex ratio of 2.32:1. The annual percentage change in incidence was 15.1% for males and 9.4% for females. Spatial and temporal analyses identified four clusters of high incidence, suggesting the need for regular screening and early diagnosis in high-risk populations. The implementation of the new Rural Cooperative Medical Care System was expected to alleviate the disease burden through better insurance coverage. The findings aimed to guide local government policies for improved prevention and treatment strategies.
