TLDR Platelet-rich plasma treatment improved hair growth in men with male pattern baldness.
In a 2016 study, 8 male patients with androgenetic alopecia were treated with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to assess its safety and effectiveness. The scalp was divided, with one half receiving PRP and the other a placebo over three monthly sessions. The results indicated an improvement in hair growth, with a significant increase in terminal hairs and a reduction in hair loss. Dermatoscopic analysis showed an increase in anagen hairs and a decrease in telogen and vellus hairs. The only side effect reported was pain during the procedure. The study concluded that PRP could be a clinically beneficial treatment for male pattern baldness, with significant results observed particularly after the first month. However, the document also notes that further research with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods is necessary to fully validate PRP's efficacy for this condition.
