A Clinico-Investigative Study of Alopecia Areata With Special Reference to Its Association With Various Systemic and Dermatological Disorders

    This study investigated 100 cases of Alopecia Areata (AA) over 22 months at the Government General Hospital in Kurnool, finding an incidence rate of 1.9% among patients attending the dermatology outpatient department. The most affected age group was 20-40 years. The study identified several systemic disorders associated with AA, including atopy (12%), thyroid abnormalities (11%), diabetes mellitus (5%), hypertension (2%), dental caries (7%), iron deficiency anemia (6%), Down's syndrome (1%), right maxillary sinusitis (1%), jaundice (1%), and chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) (1%).
