TLDR A woman with lupus and severe nerve damage improved with specific treatments.
A 34-year-old Chinese female with a 3-year history of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) presented with acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (AIDP), characterized by acute bilateral leg weakness, paraparesis, and loss of ability to walk. Physical examination revealed significant muscle weakness, facial muscle paralysis, and absence of deep tendon reflexes. Diagnostic tests confirmed sensory-motor demyelinating polyneuropathy and SLE, supported by immunologic findings and kidney biopsy. Treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin, methylprednisolone, and cyclophosphamide led to clinical and electrophysiological improvement.
