TLDR China made major progress in creating artificial skin for better burn treatment.
Significant advancements were made in skin tissue engineering in China over the past 20 years, focusing on the culture of epithelial cells and the development of dermal substitutes like acellular dermal matrix and spongiform collagen membrane. Efforts were directed towards improving the bioaffinity and vascularization of these substitutes, leading to the successful construction and clinical use of composite skin for repairing full-thickness skin defects. Recent research concentrated on new epithelial seeding cells, including epithelial and hair follicle stem cells, aiming to create artificial skin that closely mimics normal human skin for better transplant viability and improved wound healing in large area deep burn patients.
