TLDR Higher IL-19 levels are linked to more severe Alopecia Areata.
The study investigated the role of serum Interleukin-19 (IL-19) in patients with Alopecia Areata (AA) by comparing 30 AA patients with 30 healthy individuals. The findings indicated that patients with AA had significantly higher levels of serum IL-19 compared to the control group. Additionally, higher IL-19 levels were associated with more active and severe cases of AA, as measured by the Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score. However, no significant associations were found between IL-19 levels and factors such as gender, family history, onset, course, variety, recurrence, and previous treatment in the AA group.
