Evaluation of Serum Calprotectin as a Marker of Activity in Patients with Alopecia Areata

TLDR Serum calprotectin is not a reliable marker for alopecia areata activity.
This study evaluated serum calprotectin as a marker of activity in alopecia areata (AA) by measuring its levels in 60 subjects, including 20 with active AA, 20 with stable AA, and 20 controls. The results showed that while serum calprotectin levels were higher in AA patients compared to controls, and higher in active AA patients compared to stable ones, these differences were not statistically significant. Therefore, serum calprotectin was not found to be a reliable predictor of disease activity in AA patients.
