TLDR RADA16-I can effectively deliver and release mangiferin, improving its solubility and bioavailability.
The study explored the potential of the self-assembling peptide RADA16-I as a drug delivery carrier for the hydrophobic compound mangiferin (MA). It demonstrated that RADA16-I could significantly enhance the solubility of MA by forming a colloidal suspension and effectively encapsulate and release MA from hydrogels. The RADA16-I–MA hydrogels showed improved antitumor effects and reduced toxicity to normal cells due to their slow and sustained release properties. The study concluded that RADA16-I could serve as a promising carrier for hydrophobic drugs, offering a stable injectable drug carrier or hydrogel matrix for therapeutic applications, although further in vivo studies and cost considerations were necessary for practical use.
