TLDR Selenium disulfide shampoo effectively reduces dandruff and improves scalp health for all hair types.
The study evaluated the effects of selenium disulfide (SeS2) shampoo on dandruff and scalp microbiome balance across various hair types. Conducted over 6 weeks with 93 adult participants (83% women, 69% European, 31% African), the study found that SeS2 shampoo significantly reduced dandruff severity, erythema, and itching, with improvements noted after 4 weeks (p<0.05). The shampoo also effectively rebalanced the scalp microbiome (p<0.001) and was well tolerated by all subjects, who reported high satisfaction with its use.
