TLDR Some Korean herb extracts can reduce inflammation and are safe for skin use.
The study investigated the anti-inflammatory activities of 51 Korean herb medicine extracts using RAW264.7 macrophage cells. Ten ethanol extracts, including those from Biotae Orientalis Folium and Cyperi Rhizoma, were found to reduce cytotoxicity and inhibit the production of inflammatory mediators like Nitric oxide (NO), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cells. These extracts also did not cause skin irritation in human patch tests, suggesting their potential as cosmetic agents to prevent skin irritation.
