TLDR Sca-1+ cells in newborn mouse skin may become fat cells.
The study identified a significant population of Sca-1+ cells in neonatal mouse skin that expressed adipocyte markers but not hemopoietic or keratinocyte markers. These cells were located in the dermis and hypodermis and were associated with adipocyte development, as indicated by the presence of the adipocyte marker FABP4. The research suggested that these Sca-1+ cells might be precursors in the adipocyte lineage with the potential to differentiate into other cell types, highlighting the role of Sca-1 in adipocyte development and the need for further exploration of their lineage commitment.
