TLDR Most skin care products are safe during pregnancy, but avoid hydroquinone and tretinoin.
The document reviewed the safety of various skin care products during pregnancy, concluding that most products, except for hydroquinone and topical retinoids, were safe to use. Hydroquinone had a high systemic absorption rate, and topical retinoids had controversial evidence regarding their safety. Other products, such as benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, erythromycin, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, sunscreens, self-tanning agents, and depilatory creams, had minimal systemic absorption and were not expected to increase the risk of malformations or adverse effects on the fetus. Therefore, pregnant women could use these products without compromising their unborn children's health.
