TLDR Coriander seed oil is safe for healthy adults at up to 600 mg per day.
The EFSA Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) evaluated the safety of coriander seed oil (CSO) as a novel food ingredient. The primary fatty acid in CSO is petroselinic acid (PA). The oil is intended for use as a food supplement for healthy adults at a maximum of 600 mg per day. Studies showed no genotoxicity concerns, but high doses in rats led to increased liver weight and fat infiltration. A subchronic study identified a NOAEL of 450 mg/kg bw per day in rats, which is significantly higher than the proposed use level. A human study found no adverse effects at the proposed use level over six months. The Panel concluded that CSO is safe under the proposed uses and levels.
