The study investigated the safety and efficacy of 2% topical minoxidil in 40 Chinese patients with male pattern baldness over an average of 9.6 months. Of the 32 patients who completed the study, 22% experienced moderate hair growth and 59% had minimal growth. All participants noticed a decrease in hair shedding within 1 to 3 months. Mild side effects, such as scalp dryness and scaling, were observed in 2 patients but were tolerable. No systemic adverse effects were detected through various medical tests. The efficacy was lower compared to studies in the United States, possibly due to inconsistent application and stricter evaluation standards. Nonetheless, the treatment was deemed safe and effective in reducing hair shedding.
