TLDR The treatment was effective and tolerable for advanced gastric cancer.
The study investigated the efficacy and toxicity of S-1 combined with paclitaxel as a second-line chemotherapy for advanced gastric cancer in 28 patients. The treatment involved oral S-1 and paclitaxel injections over 21-day courses, with each patient receiving at least 2 courses. Results showed no complete remissions, but 13 patients had partial responses, and 10 had stable conditions, leading to an objective response rate of 13/28. The median progression time was 5.2 months, and the median life span was 7.7 months. Adverse reactions included bone marrow suppression, hair loss, gastrointestinal, and allergic reactions, but no treatment discontinuations or treatment-related deaths occurred. The combination was deemed effective and tolerable, suggesting its potential for clinical application.
