TLDR Nanophytosomes can improve the delivery and effectiveness of herbal medicines like Rutin.
The study focused on developing a Rutin-loaded nanophytosomal formulation to enhance its antioxidant properties and bioavailability, addressing the poor absorption of Rutin when taken orally. Using phosphatidylcholine and cholesterol, the researchers prepared nanophytosomes through a thin layer hydration method. The formulation with a Rutin: PC molar ratio of 1:2 achieved the smallest particle size, and the addition of cholesterol improved stability for over three weeks. FTIR and DSC analyses confirmed the formation of a Rutin-phospholipid complex. The study concluded that nanophytosomes could serve as effective carriers for enhancing the delivery of herbal medicinal compounds in food and pharmaceutical products.
