TLDR A simple, precise method was created for estimating Tamsulosin and Finasteride in medicine using common lab solvents, showing good precision and stability.
In 2014, researchers developed a simple, precise simultaneous High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method for estimating Tamsulosin (TAM) and Finasteride (FIN) in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage form. The method used easily available, inexpensive laboratory solvents and achieved separation on a spherisorb C-18 column with isocratic flow detected at 210nm. The mobile phase consisted of methanol: 0.03mM phosphate buffer pH 3.5 (70:30v/v) with a flow rate of 1.0mL/min. The method showed a linear response over a concentration range of 4-40μg/mL for tamsulosin and 10-80μg/mL for finasteride. The recovery of tamsulosin and finasteride was found to be in the range of 98.80-100.24% and 99.33-100.33%, respectively, indicating good precision and stability of the analytical method. The method was found to be selective for simultaneous estimation of tamsulosin and finasteride and could potentially be used for the estimation of these drugs in combined dosage form.

A 35-year-old started finasteride in 2014 for hair loss and maintained hair density for 7 years, occasionally using ketoconazole shampoo. Switched to dutasteride in 2022 due to increased hair fall, experimented with dosages, and found a combination with tamsulosin effective despite initial adverse reactions.

The user shared a 3.5-year hair loss treatment journey, starting with daily finasteride and oral minoxidil, then switching to finasteride 4 times a week and daily topical minoxidil. After about 2 years and 9 months, they added Dutasteride and Tamsulosin Hydrochloride to their regimen, but reduced the frequency due to side effects, and are currently satisfied with the results.
