TLDR The combination of finasteride, dutasteride, and minoxidil is generally safe for treating male hair loss with minimal side effects.
The literature review examines the risks associated with using 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (finasteride and dutasteride) combined with minoxidil for treating male androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Finasteride and dutasteride, while effective, are linked to side effects such as erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, and ejaculatory dysfunction, which typically resolve after stopping the medication. Minoxidil's side effects are rare but can include scalp irritation and hypertrichosis. Overall, when used according to guidelines, the combination therapy presents a minimal risk of side effects, supporting its continued use in AGA treatment.
