TLDR Reticular erythematous mucinosis syndrome can occur with minimal mucin deposition.
A 71-year-old man presented with asymptomatic erythematous patches on the sternum and right costal arch areas, persisting for 2 years. Histological examination revealed significant lymphocytic infiltration around the hair follicle infundibulum and dermal capillaries, with minimal mucin deposition. This case represented an extreme form of reticular erythematous mucinosis (REM) syndrome, characterized by minimal mucin deposition, contributing to the ongoing debate about the nature of REM as a mucinosis.
