TLDR Transplanting small skin grafts can successfully repigment leukoderma.
The study described a method for repigmenting leukodermas through the transplantation of minigrafts of normally pigmented, autologous skin. These grafts not only retained their pigment but also stimulated repigmentation around them by the migration of melanocytes and the spread of pigment from the grafts. The method was successfully applied to three patients: one with piebaldism, another with leukoderma from monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone, and a third with depigmentation following the healing of a burn, all achieving cosmetically acceptable repigmentation.
