TLDR A 69-year-old woman has a fast-growing hand lesion that didn't improve with salicylic acid.
A 69-year-old woman with alopecia areata presented with a rapidly growing lesion on her hand, which was diagnosed as a keratoacanthoma (KA), a subtype of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). KAs are characterized by large, firm, erythematous nodules with central keratin plugs and can grow quickly. The lesion was treated with curettage and electrodesiccation, and pathology confirmed it as a KA type of SCC. At a 6-week follow-up, the area was healing well with no recurrence.
