TLDR The Rapid Fire Hair Implanter Carousel may allow faster hair transplants with less bleeding and similar healing and growth compared to manual methods.
In 1998, Dr. Rassman and Dr. Bernstein introduced the Rapid Fire Hair Implanter Carousel, an instrument aimed at automating hair transplants by combining recipient site creation and implant insertion. A pilot study with one patient showed that the Carousel could implant hair at a rate of 40 grafts/minute, compared to 6.6 grafts/minute manually, with less bleeding and comparable postoperative healing and hair growth at 4 months. Although the study, involving 400 Carousel implants and 800 manual transplants, suggested potential benefits such as decreased operative time and minimized graft injury, the authors recommended further research with more patients to confirm these findings.
