An Assessment of Quality of Life Following Tissue Expansion in Pediatric Patients

This study assessed the quality-of-life (QOL) outcomes following tissue expansion (TE) surgery in pediatric patients, with a response rate of 38% (n = 20). The median QOL score was +17, with higher scores for TE indications of scar (+49) and alopecia (+40), and lower scores for giant congenital melanocytic nevus (-2). Improved QOL was linked to shorter treatment duration and fewer complications. Despite variable QOL outcomes, 18 out of 20 participants would recommend TE, citing increased self-confidence and improved function. The study highlights the need for further research to better understand the factors influencing QOL after TE.
