TLDR Alopecia areata significantly worsens quality of life, suggesting a need for mental health support.
This study assessed the impact of alopecia areata (AA) on the quality of life of 50 Tunisian patients using the SF-36 questionnaire. Results showed that AA significantly altered patients' quality of life, affecting mental health, emotional roles, social functioning, vitality, and general health. The severity of AA, along with factors like gender, age, and marital status, influenced these outcomes. The study concluded that AA patients experienced poor quality of life, suggesting the need for screening for psychiatric distress and considering interventions such as counseling and psychoeducation to mitigate the disease's impact.
