TLDR Severe hypothyroidism can cause unusual skin problems that improve with thyroid treatment.
A 15-year-old girl presented with psoriasiform lesions and abscesses as initial manifestations of severe hypothyroidism, a connection not previously documented. The study highlighted the significant improvement of skin lesions following thyroid hormone supplementation, suggesting a direct association between the skin conditions and hypothyroidism. The extreme severity of the hypothyroidism was likely a factor in the development of these skin manifestations. This case demonstrated that unusual skin symptoms could serve as early indicators of severe hypothyroidism.
