TLDR Using platelet-rich plasma during cesarean delivery improves wound healing and reduces infections.
This randomized control trial involving 44 women evaluated the effectiveness of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in improving cesarean wound healing and reducing surgical site infections (SSI). The study found that the group receiving PRP had a significantly lower rate of SSI (4.55%) compared to the control group (31.82%), with a p-value of 0.046. Additionally, the PRP group showed better wound healing scores on the REEDA scale on days 8/10 and 42, with statistically significant differences. The study concludes that prophylactic administration of autologous PRP during cesarean wound closure significantly enhances wound quality and reduces SSI, recommending its use for improved postoperative outcomes.
