TLDR Prostate cancer patients need early psychological and sexual support during radiotherapy to improve their quality of life.
The review discussed the significant impact of prostatic irradiation on sexual dysfunction and emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to manage these effects, focusing on psychosexual therapy and masculine self-esteem. It highlighted the need for early psychological evaluation, sex therapy, and comprehensive therapeutic approaches involving both medical and psychological support to improve patient outcomes. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), group CBT, and couples therapy were shown to enhance sexual intimacy, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve masculine self-esteem. The review also stressed the importance of patient education, preemptive psychiatric evaluation, and partner involvement in sexual recovery, underscoring the necessity of addressing both physical and psychological aspects to improve the quality of life for prostate cancer patients.
