TLDR PCOS is common in women with acne, especially those who are obese or have excess hair growth.
The study conducted at Dhananalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College and Hospital from January 2016 to August 2017 aimed to explore the association between acne and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in Indian women. It included 100 women over 18 years old with acne vulgaris. The study found that 30% of these women had PCOS, with comedones being the most common acne lesion. While PCOS was not significantly associated with age, marital status, or menstrual cycle regularity, it was significantly linked to higher BMI, hirsutism, and larger waist circumference. The study concluded that PCOS was highly prevalent among women with acne, with obesity and hirsutism being strong risk factors.
